About the role

Support Worker/ Home Care Worker - FORMBY

Job purpose

You
would be one of two part time carers providing support to, a 33-year old young
man with Down’s Syndrome to enable him to live independently in his own home  a
purpose-built annex attached to his parents home in Formby.

He is able to
undertake his own personal care.

At home he enjoys socialising, listening to
music, playing pool, chatting. He is very easy to get on with and has a great sense of humour.

He really enjoys socialising and has a wide range of social activities outside his home.

He enjoys sport, discos, trips out to the cinema and theatre, bowling and meeting with his friends. He is vulnerable and doesn’t recognise danger and so needs someone to accompany him when out in the community and to safely transport him to and from activities.

If you are caring, responsible, and proactive, then this will be a very enjoyable and rewarding post.

He will see you as his helper, companion and friend.

Current full driving licence is required.

15-18 hours/ week available. The number of hours and shift can be agreed between the two carers but likely to be 2-3 days per week mornings (9-10 a.m.) and evenings (4-9 p.m.)

£13-£14 p/h dependant on skills and experience

There will be occasions when his parents are away and you will need to provide overnight cover by agreement, staying in a carers en-suite bedroom in his home. You would be paid the Sefton agreed rate for a sleeping overnight (currently £130/night).

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:
* Understanding of and positive approach to people with a learning disability.
* Current full driving licence
* Good communication skills, perceptive with good emotional intelligence.
* Experience of managing a household and able to undertake basic household tasks (cooking, cleaning, ironing etc).

Desirable:
* Experience of working with people with a learning disability
* Experience as a carer formally or informally.
* Experience of voluntary work.

Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential:
* Good general education to level 2 or equivalent.
* Understanding of learning disability


* Qualification in health and social care
or a relevant subject.
* Further level 3
education in a related subject.
* First aid training and qualification.

Respite provision. Although the majority of
the work will be timetabled there will be some flexibility as the hours may
change depending on need. For example, you may need to cover some additional
hours when the other carer is on holiday. You would be paid for this at the
hourly rate.
